One of the most important qualities of a WordPress page builder is speed. If you cannot use it to create pages quickly, then it loses a lot of its value.

Having just released Forge a while ago, we’re already woring hard to add very useful features into the plugin. And here comes the first of them: Importing and exporting content.

Your content is now portable

The Import/Export feature provides a simple way of copying and saving content made with Forge.

The way it works is simple: all you need to do is open up the builder interface, and choose the Export feature in the new dropdown list to the right of the element collection. Once you click on Export, you will be presented with a form that looks like this:

forge-export

This code contains all the data to recreate the current page.

This code is a representation of all the elements in the current page. You can copy it, and then use the import feature to bring all the elements in a different page. This code will also work across different sites!

This functionality will help you a lot when building content in WordPress. By having the ability to import and export content, you can now:

  • Duplicate pages easily
  • Share layouts and content with others
  • Backup your content seamlessly
  • Create a basic templating system
forge-import

You can import the contents in any version of Forge by hovering over the cog icon, and selecting Import.

Just one thing: migrating images between different sites is not supported yet, due to those being stored on your media library as attachments.

More to come

This is a small but significant release. A lot more things are on the way, so stay tuned for more improvements for both versions of Forge.

In case you haven’t tried out Forge, you can download it from the official WordPress repository for free: get Forge.
